Acoma Polychrome Large Food Bowl, c. 1920

I seldom see vintage, utilitarian Acoma food bowls and this one dating to the first quarter of the 20th century is a beauty; with slightly flaring rim, slipped white all the way to the bottom; bold painted cloud, rain designs and various geometric abstractions; all in deep red and black mineral and vegetal paints. Of course it has a subtle “lean” just to add to its considerable charm. Traditionally made and fired. Wonderful bowl!
