Zuni Polychrome Jar with Heart-line Deer by Quanita Kalestewa, c. 1965

I rarely see the work of this fine Zuni potter and I’m not sure how active she is now. This is lovely and rare example beautifully decorated with a variety of traditional designs, the primary one being four deer in what is referred to as “deer in a house” design. As is typical of Quanita’s work, this one is also elegantly built, thin walled and light. Just a satisfying and lovely jar; rarely seen example by this fine artist; traditionally coiled and fired outside.
