Another unusual Acoma chili bowl.  Bowl is light and beautifully formed; the wonderful black on white designs would appear to be rain (depicted by very fine lines) and lightening.  But it’s the pie crust rim with its painstakingly painted orange highlights that raise this bowl to the wonderous.  The pie crust rim itself is carefully, skillfully made; many like this are rather crude.  This appears to have been made carefully with impressions perhaps being made with the potter’s little finger and then each impression painted; all perhaps done at once with the finger alread dipped in paint; I wish I could have watched! The result is the most satisfying pie crust rim that I’ve ever seen.

The condition is excellant.  This modest bowl is one of my favorites in the “small” show!
