A rare, beautifully formed small child’s water jar with rich black designs in 2 horizontal design fields. The upper design is predominantly black-on-cream with dots and bisected triangle. The main mid-body design is black-on-cream as well, but within deep red bands to rich and dramatic effect. The jar is beautifully formed, with a flaring black rim and a red band in the interior neck. This interior band is indicative of late 19th century Laguna or Acoma, with its generous width (shown in attached pic)a likely signature of the potter. There is another wide red band at the top of the orange underbody and beautiful fire clouds on the base. Form, rich color, warm patina; a gorgeous example.
