This is a stunning jar. It is perhaps a bit later than the other examples in the “small” Show, but for sheer extravagant artistry it is unmatched. The jar is magnificently formed, thin and pleasing with a high sloping shoulder. The wonderful array of modernistic designs are set against a snow white Acoma slip. The designs are painted by a master and include: checkerboards embedded in diamond motifs at the top and bottom; paddle like forms with orange teardrops and very, very fine cross-hatching; and flower or propeller-like crosses, painted light orange on one side and deep orange on the other,a subtle artistic flourish. There is a wide red band at the bottom which could indicate somewhat earlier origin. The more we look at this jar, the more amazing detail emerges.
