A large and exquisite jar with all-over array of complex designs featuring solid black clouds and rain, diamonds within vertical rectangular fields, dramatic fine-line rain-in-the-mountains, beautiful crosshatching and more. The jar is very thin and light with a slight lean and a slight dip in the rim; the latter an indicator of a potter not influenced by the demands for perfection of an emerging art market driven by the newly arrived tourist bearing trains and galleries. The jar appears to have been used judging from minor scuffing and slip loss although with no discernible water wear, I’m guessing for corn and grain storage. Superb and beautiful.
