San Juan/Ohkay Owingeh Red-on-Tan Utilitarian Serving Bowl with Finger Impressions, c. 1890

Unusual variation on classic red-on-tan with the red slipped band being entirely on the rim and interior neck. The exterior is unslipped natural clay color, stone polished and decorated solely with the potter’s finger impressions, spaced about 2” apart and confined the bowl’s neck. Several lovely fire clouds enhance the deep tan/brown surface. Lovely lovely bowl.
