Acoma Black-on-White Plate with Two Standing Mimbres Figures by Anita Lowden c. 1965

My great admiration for the pottery of Anita Lowden (1930-1970) is no secret. This plate with mirror image Mimbres critters and rain in the mountains design is a superb example of the excellence of her craft and her endless creativity. The plate itself is beautifully built, slightly bowl-like and elegant; the painting is precise, flawless. The design is just complex enough with plenty of space around the standing figures. Anita sadly died young so each piece is a rarity to cherish.
