Slipped white to base with birds and curving capped feather-like designs, this jar has multiple features characteristic of Martina and Florentino. The fancy birds parade on water like forms around the neck. Each bird is different with the birds breasts often decorated with Cochiti cloud-like forms, only sideways. The Cochiti designs also suggest Florentino as the painter with his Cochiti roots. The flaring inner rim is decorated with clouds and dots. The jar is large too with a joyous presence. The jar has rag wiped Cochiti slip, dating it as post-1905, the year when Martina introduced this slip into San Ildefonso. A wonderful example! Condition: very good with some surface spalling and 2 small rim chips Provenance: a Santa Fe collection
