Franklin Peters Acoma Pueblo pottery platesFor the past few years, I have enjoyed watching Franklin’s occasional creation of small plates. Prior to this, i had largely featured Franklin’s large water and larger storage jars in the gallery. So I was very pleased when he accepted the idea of a no holds barred show of his plates. This stunning show includes Franklin’s creativity let loose: there’s large and small plates; there are polychromes and black-on-whites, most were made traditionally with Acoma white clay, but he made one with red clay; there are plates with birds and plates without them; there are fine line plates and others with bold geometrics; one isn’t even round; some feature old traditional designs and some have Mimbres critters. Whimsy and beauty come together in this, Franklin Peters first plate show. Everyone is welcome. Franklin’s brilliance shines brightly in this show.
