Pueblo Pottery Nativity Sets: Then and Now
This show opens with a gallery Reception on Friday, November 16, 5-7 pm with artists present.
Pueblo Nativity Sets became popular beginning in the ‘60’s, an offshoot of the then new storyteller figurative form that began at Cochiti Pueblo. Then as now, only a few potters created these warm yet complex multi figure works. In this show, we have examples from some of the great early potters in this tradition (Seferina Ortiz, Marie G. Romero, Josephine Arquero and Ada Suina) as well as new sets by Maxine Toya and Max Early. Then as well as now potters generally made only one set a year so each is rare as well as wonderful. Happy holidays and enjoy!
