Pueblo Pottery Bowls, 1890’s – the Present

Opens June 1

Pueblo bowls are perhaps the most modest and in one sense, the simplest of Pueblo pottery forms.  Yet that simplicity belies a diverse richness of size, design, functional importance and age.  In this show I have gathered an array of both classic and unusual examples from a number of the Pueblos of New Mexico. These range from rare 1920’s Isleta small bowls to medium sized serving bowls to very large historic dough bowls from Zia, Santo Domingo and Cochiti; with particular strength in food or chili bowls.  They were primarily used in Pueblo homes, but the universal appeal of food bowls translated well to the emerging tourist market.   Come and enjoy!
