This is a beautiful, high shouldered bowl of the type that could serve as a dough bowl or as a storage jar.  I have actually seen more red-on-tan examples of this form than black like this one.  Possibly corn cob polished which has resulted in a softly textured or ridged surface that feels wonderful to touch.  Incomplete fire reduction is not uncommon in these old pots as perfectly solid black for the art market had not yet become an issue.  In this case, the firing has left light highlights bleeding through the surface and a wonderful fire cloud to a beautiful effect.

A very fine example of this form; this is a warm, wonderful and satisfying bowl.

Condition is fine, with a small and old rim chip; unrestored, original condition.
