Master potter Dominique Toya of Jemez Pueblo says:
I am a traditional potter with contemporary designs and techniques. By traditional I mean we gather our own clay and temper and we clean them and mix them and fire outdoors with cedar wood.
This popular event includes a presentation of the Toya family pottery making tradition, a chance to make pottery with Jemez clay, a lesson in pottery painting by Maxine with traditional paints, painting and traditionally firing pre-made medallions which participants can take home and a Jemez feast Day style lunch featuring Maxine’s famous Jemez enchiladas (I hope!)! And sometimes a few famous potters show up!
The date is Saturday September 15 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. $150/person. Limited to 20 participants.
